REPORT OF ELGASA OAU MEETING HELD ON THE 1ST OF JUNE 2018


The meeting started at exactly 5:12pm after Com. Olakanmi Odetayo move the motion for the commencement of the meeting. Com Olakunle Oluwaseun led in the opening prayer in the christian way while Hon. Akin led the singing of Ejigbo anthem.
The President, Com. Odemakinde Taiwo appreciated the members who saw it as a necessity to attend the first meeting of the session as well as the first meeting being organised by the new administration. He promised and assured that ELGASA OAU will soar higher more than it has been in the past. Also, he promised that the welfare of members will be well catered for. He expressed his dissatisfaction on the delay by the former administration in handling over the financial statement and account to the current administration. He said it has had a crippling effect on the executive body in planning the Freshmen’s Orientation Program. Nevertheless, he assured that a memorable orientation program will still be organised on time for the freshmen irrespective of any odd. He announced the date in view to be Saturday, 9th of June, 2018.
Speaking on the Orientation Program, Com. Olakanmi Odetayo spoke on the importance of fund to succeed in organising the Freshmen’s Orientation program and also familiarisation of the executive body with the Staff advisers. He urged the incumbent President to mount pressure on the former President to avoid further delay. He suggested that the executives consult faculty and departmental executives to get, if possible, the details of students from Ejigbo since the new accommodation policy has sent many, including most freshmen off, campus. He also added that the members should reach a consensus on how to address the delay in handling over the financial statement of the former administration and familiarisation with the staff advisers because time is invisibly swift.
Hon. Akin also made his view known on the delay by the former administration led by Com. Yusuf Muideen. He expressed how dissatisfied he is as the necessary things ought to have been done before now; especially, the familiarisation and the account of the association. To avoid further postponement, he suggested the members give a deadline to the former administration to do the needful.
The incumbent President intimated the members with the planned presentation of the financial report to the association on this day which has been jeopardised by the absence of the former President who had promised to present it unfailingly this day. Hon. Akin suggested that he be called in the meeting for all members to hear what he has to say on why the report is being delayed. When telephoned, Com. Yusuf Muideen tendered his sincere apology for failing to be present at the meeting linking his absence to an urgent matter which came up. However, he promised that the familiarisation will hold on Monday and Tuesday and also present the report.

Speaking on other businesses, the President urged members to be prepared to fly the glorious flag of excellence in the coming competition which the ELGASA National Body organises annually.
Com. Olakanmi Odetayo commended the effort of the executives in mobilising members for meeting, especially the bulk sms sent up to three times before the meeting. He also tasked the President to make sure the Association is registered. The President gave his word and assured that it will be registered if the registration was not renewed last session. But if otherwise, the renewal will surely be done. Hon. Akin also expressed how proud he was when he received the notice of the meeting on his phone and tasked the President and other executives to keep working towards the expected end.
Com. Ola Gas advised members, particularly freshmen to share any challenge with fellow members who could help.
The P.R.O I, Com. Ayanniyi Ganiyu urged members interested in occupying the still vacant posts to contact the executives. He also added that anyone who would like to present something entertaining during the Orientation Program shouldn’t hesitate to contact the executives.
On a final note, the President commended members for coming and also encouraged them to show immense support towards the administration assuring, once again, that welfare of members is going to be taken seriously.
Com. Olakanmi Odetayo moved the motion for the adjournment of the meeting at exactly 6:16pm while Com. Akin seconded the motion.
Com. Ola Gas closed the meeting with prayer.
